Few people know , SDN has everything it takes to become a new standard of IT. Basically, SDN brings a global expansion of  virtualization from hardware and storage to further infrastructure networks. Thus, interventions on the networks will not require a manual configuration, a direct intervention on physical devices – because SDN these interventions are virtualized.

SDN has a positive impact on many key points. The most important capabilities of SDN are:

– Almost instantaneous provisioning

– More efficient and  simplified security

– Quick delivery of dynamic contents (in increasingly)

– Compatibility with existing infrastructure

– Automatic optimization of quality required by SDN’s ability to Task priorities and requests received in real time.

Experts see SDN’s impact at the same level as that of the Cloud or Big Data. SDN impediment that has at the moment is to earn popularity, so to be recognized and implemented as a solution.

SK Telecom is placing a bet on SDN for next-generation wireless networks, signing up for a partner membership in ON.Lab, which is developing an open source SDN operating system.

“SK Telecom feels that SDN and the whole notion of virtualized infrastructure is very important technology for next-generation wireless networks,” says Kang Won Lee, senior vice president of R&D for Sk Telecom.

“ON.Lab is focused on building an SDN controller with the telco requirements as their key objectives, namely scalability, performance and high availability, and we felt it fairly important that we participate,” Lee says.
